What Does it Mean to Abide in Christ? (3-Min Devotional for Women)

Have you ever looked at your To-Do list or New Year’s resolutions and thought, “Where on earth do I begin?”

Praise Jesus that He doesn’t leave us wondering.

He is so good and He lets us know that there is only one thing necessary for us, to sit at His feet and know Him more. (Luke 10:41-42) ❤️

Whatever goals we may have this year may we never lose sight of the most important:

Learning to Abide in Christ.

Devotional by Ada Santos

If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.

John 15:7 (NKJV)

Ladies, we have to abide in Christ. We must abide in His love.

If we do, He and His words will abide in us and our lives will be fruitful.

So what does it mean to abide in Jesus?

It means walking with Him and staying close and connected with Him, like a branch abides in the vine.

When a branch is part of the vine, it bears fruit. On the other hand, when a branch is no longer part of the vine, it dies.

Jesus says that if we abide in Him (spend time at His side, learn more from Him, come to know Him, are sincere with Him, acknowledge our sins before Him), we will bear much fruit.

Jesus wants His words to abide in us.

That means we allow His word to affect every part of who we are as women.

That is to say:

  • We must read the Bible so His words will be woven into the fabric of our being.
  • We must know the Bible so well that it becomes our guide in life & a fountain of both renewal and the knowledge of God’s will.
  • We must allow our knowledge of Who God is and of who we are in Him to grow.

God says that if we abide in Him and allow His words to abide in us, we can ask anything we desire and He will respond.

That’s not to say that we will always receive what we want.

But it does mean that because we are so interwoven with Christ, we will have His mind and learn to pray for what He wants for our lives.

When we do this, we will end up doing His will and seeing positive answers to our prayers.

As we seek to grow in diligence and edit our lives for good, we must begin with what is number one—diligently spending quality time with Jesus in His Word.
