My husband runs and has considered competing in a marathon-I on the other hand am no runner.
But I can imagine a little of what it might be like as each reaches the halfway mark and the moment comes when they feel that they can give no more-they have nothing left. Their dreams of finishing the race well and obtaining the prize start to fizzle. However, the ones who strengthen themselves and persevere are able to press on towards the goal.
As Christian women, our lives on this earth are not to be compared with a walk in the park but a life-long marathon.
We are met with obstacles, we tire, we get discouraged, and we feel we have nothing left in us that can or even wants to go on.
So here are 10 Passages to Encourage You to Finish the Race of Faith Well
How do I Press on Toward the Goal?

Remember Those Before You, Throw off Every Sin + Lift Up Your Eyes
Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking into Jesus the author and finisher of our faith who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross despising the shame and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:1-2, NKJV
Don’t Lose Heart because You are Never Alone
And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
Galatians 6:9, NKJV
Jesus said,
These things I have spoken to you, that in me you may have peace, in the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.
John 16:33, NKJV
…I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’
Matthew 28:20b, NKJV
God the Father reminds us through Paul,
For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’ So we may boldly say: the LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?
Hebrews 13:5b-6, NKJV
Remember Who Your Father is and that His Strength will Take You to the Finish Line
Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor grows weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths faint and are weary and the young men shall utterly fall, but those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:28-31, NKJV
Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.
1 Thessalonians 5:24, NKJV
And Finally, Always Keep Your Eyes on the Prize
After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, ‘Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.
Genesis 15:1
Paul, in his last letter before being beheaded, wrote these words to Timothy, his son in the faith:
“…the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved His appearing.”
2 Timothy 4:6-8, NKJV
May This Be Our Heart Cry
“But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For His sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not have a righteouness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith…
Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me His own.
Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3:7-9, 12-14
As you press on towards the goal:
- Remember those before you.
- Throw off every sin.
- Lift up your eyes.
- Don’t lose heart because you are never alone.
- Remember Who your Father is and that His strength will take you to the finish line.
- Keep your eyes fixed on the prize.
Blessings!
