10+ Bible Passages to Ponder to Rediscover the Wonder of Christmas!

Familiarity tends to rob us of our wonder.

Paul David Tripp, Come Let Us Adore Him Advent Devotional.

Have you found that to be true in your life? I confess that I have.

So what do we do when that ‘old familiar Christmas story’ has lost its wonder?

Well, we follow Mary’s example and ponder & treasure up in our hearts anew what God has said & done.

We join with the humble shepherds & praise the Lord for fulfilling His promises + bringing salvation.

And here are 10+ passages to help you on your journey to rediscover the wonder of the most amazing event in history:

God becoming man.

You’ll find Old Testament passages + prophecies & then the New Testament’s fulfillment in Jesus Christ.

You can read them all in one sitting or divide them up over the days leading up to Christmas.

Involve your family members + friends or make it a special time with just you and the Lord.

However you choose to do it, allow yourself time to remember the reality of the miracle and gift of God stepping down from His throne to save sinners like me + you.

There truly is no greater love!

NOTE: Due to some passages being longer I’ve only included some of the verses. But I encourage you to read each in it’s entirety. 😊 (All cited are from NKJV).

10+ Bible Passages to Ponder this Christmas.

These alternate from the Old Testament to the New; reminding us of the promises of old being kept by the faithful God!

Genesis 1:1, 3-4

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good…

John 1:1–4, 12

In the beginning the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.

John 8:12

Jesus spoke… “I am the light of the world. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness but have the light of life.”

Isaiah 7:14

Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Matthew 1:18-25

…“Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her us of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His Name JESUS, for He shall save His people from their sins. So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”…

Isaiah 9:6

For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder.

And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever.

The zeal of the Lord of host will perform this.

Luke 1:26-38

…“And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus.

He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.

And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end…

…For with God nothing will be impossible.”
(v. 30-33,37)

Micah 5:2

“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall come forth to Me the One to be Ruler in Israel, whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting.” (Emphasis added)

Psalm 90:2

Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, you are God. (Emphasis added)

Isaiah 40

To whom then will you liken Me, or to whom shall I be equal?” Says the Holy One.

Lift up your eyes on high, and see who has created these things, who brings out their host by number; He calls them all by name, by the greatness of His might and the strength of His power; not one is missing…

… Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary.

His understanding is unsearchable.

He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength. The youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall, but those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.
(vv. 25-26, 28-31) [Emphasis added.]

Colossians 1:15-17

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things and in Him all things consist.

Matthew 2:1-12

Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem…wise men from the East came…saying “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”…(v. 1-2) [Emphasis added]

Luke 2:1-20

Then the angel said to them,”Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”…

… Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart.

Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them.
(vv.10-14,19-20)

Acts 16:31

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved.

Love, Lauri
