This question came to my mind last week when someone hacked into and took complete control of my Facebook page. We all know that it’s sadly a common occurrence these days, but inside nobody really thinks it will happen to them personally…until it does.
And all of the sudden someone has changed your email and password and under your profile pic is a name in Arabic, along with a personal description (also in Arabic). Curious about the statement under your photo, you copy and paste it into Google search only to find that when you hit enter tons of pornographic websites appear.
So it happened to me.
It was very strange to know that pictures of me, my family and friends were now connected with pornographic statements and websites. That’s not who I am. And even though it’s been reported to Facebook, the page is still active in the hands of another.
And sadly this happens way too often and many times on a much larger scale. ‘Identity theft’ is an all-too familiar term. According to Center for Victim Research, 7% to 10% of the US population are victims of identity fraud each year and 21% of those experience multiple incidents of identity theft. And an article by CNBC stated that American Consumers lost $56 billion to identity fraud in 2020 alone with about 49 million people falling victim. That’s alot of stolen identities.
I’ve heard that no one’s identity is safe in this day and age…
Out of the evil intentions of the person who is using my Facebook page, God brought good because He reminded me that my identity is not wrapped up in pictures and statements and that no matter what is posted under my image, it doesn’t change who I truly am.
He reminded me of the Beauty and Security of a life hidden in Him.
The Beauty of a Life in Christ
…the LORD has anointed Me…to give them beauty for ashes.
"The LORD has anointed Me to preach good tidings...to heal the brokenhearted...proclaim liberty to the captives...to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn, to console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes...the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness, that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified." Isaiah 61:1-3, (NKJV, emphasis added)
#1. Those who humble themselves before the Lord are made Beautiful by Him at the moment of salvation.
For the Lord takes pleasure in His people; He will beautify the humble with salvation.Psalm 149:4 (NKJV, emphasis added)
I love how through the observable life cycle of the humble, yet glorious butterfly, our Creator has given us a glimpse into the unseen, glorious transformation that happens in our spirits the moment we choose to humble ourselves before the loving King of the Universe.
Once I heard a comparison that I really like. This unique insect starts out as a caterpillar, living only for itself–consuming as much as possible. It eats, gets bigger and that’s about it.
Then, at just the right moment, this creature known as a caterpillar “dies”, never to be seen again and in its place emerges a new creation. One designed for so much more. It can fly, pollinate flowers, reproduce, migrate, rid the environment of harmful things, such as, waste and damaging insects.
Almost unbelievable–Born twice. First as a caterpillar. Secondly as a butterfly. 2 completely distinct creatures.
We also have the opportunity to be born twice. First, physically, when we enter this world as a creation of God.
So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Genesis 1:27, (NKJV)
You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb. I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them." Psalm 139:13-16 (NKJV)
Secondly, if we respond to the call of Christ, turn away from our sins and give our life to Him, we are saved & spiritually transformed into a child of God. (John 1:12-13)
...if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9 (NKJV)
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. John 1:12-13 (NKJV) For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father". Romans 8:15
Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! 1 John 3:1 (NKJV)
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation: old things have passed away: behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)
Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears my words and believes in Him who sent me has everlasting life and shall not come in to judgment but has passed from death into life. John 5:24 (NKJV)
So it is with all those who accept God’s free, gracious offer of salvation.
#2. The Beauty of Being in Relationship with Christ and a Possessor of Beautiful and Precious Truths.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in ChristEphesians 1:3 (NKJV)
In Christ, there is the Beauty of knowing that..
- Although I may be rejected by others, I am Eternally Loved and Accepted by my Heavenly Father. (Ephesians 1:3-6)
- If I lose all my worldly possessions, I can be certain that Jesus is preparing a mansion in heaven and I am heir to an incorruptible inheritance. (John 14:1 & 1 Peter 1:3-4)
- When the accuser comes to remind me of my past sins, there is peace to be found in knowing that I am forever Forgiven. (Ephesians 1:7)
- When I feel like I’m worth nothing, I can cling to the truth that I was Bought with a Great Price and that He calls me Special, Chosen and I’m now part of a Royal Priesthood and Holy Nation. (Revelation 5:9; 1 Peter 2:9)
- When I’m battling with temptation and sin, there is strength in knowing I’ve been Set Free. (John 8:32)
- When I feel alone, there’s comfort in the reality I am His and He has promised to never leave menor forsake me. (Titus 2:13-14)
- When I’m unsure whether to share the gospel with someone, there is boldness that I am an Ambassador for Christ. (2 Cor. 5:20)
It is impossible to list here all the promises and truths that God so generously pours out upon those who fear His Name.
But its like going on a never-ending treasure hunt for precious jewels, but this journey you can be certain that there are blessings to be found:
You [God]will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.Psalm 16:11 (NKJV, emphasis added)
#3. God continues to beautify us by saving us from the power of sin.
Although truly beneficial to the environment around them butterflies are, without doubt, best known and appreciated for their grace and beauty. Countless artwork, jewelry, home decor and even fashion have all been inspired by their grace and loveliness.
So it should be with every child of God. Everything about us should be pleasing, a small taste of the goodness and beauty of God.
That’s what God’s work sanctification is–God getting rid of the sinful, ugly and unpleasing characteristics of our old life and renewing us in the beauty of holiness.
For this is the will of God, your sanctification.1 Thessalonians 4:3
...Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. Ephesians 5:25-27, (NKJV) [emphasis added]
The Bible says that every part of us-even our feet-can be transformed into something beautiful!
They looked to Him and were radiant… (Psalm 34:5, NKJV)
Do not let your adornment be merely outward...rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. 1 Peter 3:4 (NKJV, emphasis added)
...How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things! Romans 10:15 (NKJV, emphasis added)
Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it. 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 (NKJV. emphasis added)
Like the lowly worm that is transformed into a beautiful butterfly never to return to its previous life again, So it is with lowly sinner who by God’s grace through faith is made new. We die to our old life of sin and are raised to walk in a beautiful new life as heirs of the Kingdom of the Most High. (Romans 6:5-11)
#4 We have the Certainty of Seeing the Beautiful One face to face.
Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away...and I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. Revelation 22:1,3 (NKJV)
One things I have desired of the LORD, that will I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD…I would have lost heart unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait on the LORD; be of good courage and He shall strengthen your heart…Psalm 27:4,13-14 (NKJV, emphasis added)
The Security of a Life in Christ
One quick Google search and you can find a laundry list of programs that promise the latest and greatest protection from identity theft.
For the right price, they promise you more peace of mind and a better night’s sleep knowing your identity is safe in their hands.
But as hackers figure out more and more ways to commit fraud, these programs become weaker and our earthly identities become less and less safe.
Life in the Lord is different. It’s backwards from the way the world functions.
Instead of us having to pay to be protected, Christ paid the price in full so that we could be forgiven, saved, made new, be accepted, loved, holy, daughters of the Most High King, promised everlasting life.
It was a debt we had because of our sins. And it was a debt that we could never pay.
So on what can we base our certainty of all this?
And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts; knowing this first, that no prohpecy of scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.2 Peter 1:19-21 (NKJV, empahasis added)
…The testimony of the LORD is sure…Psalm 19:7 (NKJV, emphasis added)
Forever, O LORD, Your Word is settled in heaven.Psalm 119:89 (NKJV, emphasis added)
The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever.Isaiah 40:8 (NKJV, emphasis added)
The Word of the Lord is sure, confirmed, settled in heaven and stands forever.
And it is filled with faithful and precious promises of who we can be in Christ. But why should we believe what God says? Because of His character and who He is. He is trustworthy and that’s why we can trust Him.
God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said and will He not do? Or has He spoken and will He not make it good?Numbers 23:19 (NKJV)
in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began…Titus 1:2
How Can I Discover More of the Depth of the Beauty and Security that Comes from an Identity in Christ?
Get to Know God’s character and promises by spending time with Him in:
- His Word, the Bible
From the beginning, Satan’s goal has been to get us to doubt God’s Character and His Word. And he has come only to “steal, kill and destroy.” He wants to steal our identity by convincing us that we and God are something other that what is revealed in the Bible so that we walk around defeated instead of walking in Christ. That’s why we daily, continually need to be in fellowship with the Lord to counter these attacks. It will help us remember that our identity, if we have been born again as a child of God, is eternally secure.
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand. John 10:27-29 (NKJV, emphasis added) You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 1 John 4:4
So Where do we Go from Here?
If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.Colossians 3:1-4 (NKJV)
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.Hebrews 12:28 (NKJV, emphasis added)
That’s what the purpose is behind Titus 2 in a TextMe World. Yes it is to raise up a generation of women who love God, their families and their homes more, but it begins by knowing our identity in Christ and seeking the things of above, the heavenly things and not fixating on what will soon pass.
So I have a question for you:
Is Your Identity Safe?
Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." John 3:3 (NKJV)
If you’ve never accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior and have yet to experience beauty of a life found in Him, today is the day you can become someone new. A fresh start on the road to the abundant life with true purpose and eternal hope.
The price of complete identity security was costly–Christ’s very life. He paid the highest of all prices so that we could be born again as a child of God and eternally safe in the Fathers hands.
So if you’ve never tasted the goodness of God, I invite you to come taste and see that the Lord is good and I implore you on Christ’s behalf-be reconciled to Him. Your eternal identity depends on it.
Everyone who repents of their sin and places their trust in Jesus is born again and receives a new identity.
Thank You Lord, that I and everyone who trust in You are safe forever and our lives and identities are hidden in Christ.
These are just a couple of the endless promises that make up who I am now because of God’s grace towards me.
No one can change who I truly am as a daughter of the Most High King.
My identity is not found in my name, Lauri Santos, but in my name, child of the Most High and NO ONE and nothing is powerful enough to snatch me out of my Father’s hands. I am safe in Him and my destiny is certain.
My name, daughter of the Most High King, is one that will remain with me for all eternity and no one can steal that identity from me. No one.
I pray that your identity is also safe for all of eternity in Christ, because this world and all that is in it is quickly passing away.
